pictures of horses: Camargue Horse Pictures
Camargue horses are born brown and turn white at about four years of age. Traditionally they were used to move cattle from one area to another. To ensure the horses stand out from the black cattle they bred only the lightest of horses with one another for many years until the breed became white.
Camargue horses are not traditionally fed hay and grain. They live off the lush unspoiled marshland.
The Camargue traditions and festivals revolve around these white horses and the black bulls in this region of Southern France.
